Unpaid Wages

My employer has held some money out of my pay because he said I did some damage to the employer’s property. Can he do this?
No. It does not matter whether you did the damage or not. In many states, including Maine, money cannot be withheld from your pay for this reason.
Because of some shortages which the employer blames on me, money has been withheld from my pay. Is this legal?
No. It does not matter whether you are at fault or not. Money cannot be withheld from your pay for this reason.
My employer asked me to work “off the clock” and I agreed to. Am I supposed to be paid for this work?
Yes. It is illegal for the employer to make such an agreement. He has to pay for all of the work that you did if he knows that you did it.
I left a job over a year ago, and I still have not been paid all of my wages. How long do I have to do something about it?
In Maine, six years from when you earned the money. Sometimes longer.
